Thanks!!

I just finished putting everything away following a wonderful weekend as one of the stops on the Bluff Country Studio Art Tour. The weather was a little dreary, but that didn't seem to keep people away. I had a great time visiting with the folks that made their way out to the Grubtown School. One of my favorite parts about the tour is meeting and visiting with the interesting people touring the studios.

Thank you to everyone who stopped out - it was great to meet you!

Check out the awesome green and black glaze combo on the large bowl (and try not to notice the sleeping roadie on the couch getting a little rest before people show up. Roadies work really hard to help us put on events like this and when possible it's good to let them get a little extra rest during slow times).

New from the Kiln this Morning

I was up bright and early this morning to unload a kiln full of glazed pieces. Didn't even wait until I had breakfast first!! There were some very fun pieces in there and I couldn't wait to see how they turned out. I've very pleased. Check them out...

Iron Red oblong vase with slip design

Glossy Green and Black reed diffuser

Glossy Green and White handled bowl

Glossy Green and Black Mugs

Sapphire Blue and White oblong platter

Most of these pieces will be available at the Bluff Country Studio Art Tour next weekend. Later, anything that hasn't sold will make it's way to my Etsy shop.

The kiln has been reloaded and I hope the things in this load will turn out as well as the one this morning.

One more week to go

Just one week until the Bluff Country Studio Art Tour and I've got a load of pots in the kiln just starting to heat up and at least one more load to go, maybe two. Always pushing it to the last minute. Oh well.

I'm having a little trouble with one of my glazes. I'm not sure what the deal is, but my Sky Blue is cracking off the pots as it dries, so I'll need to reglaze a bunch of them before firing. Might not get that done before the tour so I'll be a little light on this great Iron Red and Sky Blue combo at the tour. It's not a new batch of glaze and it had previously been pretty reliable so I think this application was a little too thick and I was pushing it to dry fast. We'll see how they do the next time.

Have a great weekend and be well.

A Lapse in Judgement

So... I've been pushing thing through the process to get a few more things done before the Bluff Country Studio Art Tour. This morning I has the brilliant idea to heat greenware in the oven to make sure it was dry before putting it through a bisque fire. Everybody does that sometimes right? I do that more than I probably should. And usually with no problems. But today, I forgot to set the oven temp really low and accidentally left it at 350 degrees. Fortunately, most of the pieces were already dry, but the one that wasn't didn't fair so well.

At least it was easier to clean out the oven than the kiln.

Have a great weekend.
