What's New?

Well... let's see.  Since most of my winter is devoted to making new inventory for summer sales, that's where most of my time has been spent.  But nobody can be a slave to their summer inventory, right??

Last night I ran the first glaze firing I've done in nearly three months.  While it's great to spend all the time just making, I really miss the part where you get to unload finished pieces.  Right now the kiln is a little too hot to unload, but that never stops me from peeking.  :-)

My shelves of bisque ware for oxidation firing are nearly full and I've got enough bisque ware for at least one of the spring wood firings completed so far.  The next couple weeks will be spent making additional pieces for wood-firings before full scale glazing and firing begins.

It's time to apply to summer sales.  Rochester, MN has a summer long weekly event called Thursdays on First & 3rd.  I've attended this event as a shopper in the past and it's always seemed well organized and well attended.  Today I mailed my application to be a vendor at a few of the dates this summer.  So... I'm super excited about adding this event to my show calendar.

That about it.  Next up... more throwing, blogging for the Bluff Country Studio Art Tour and finalizing handouts for my wood fire workshop in late May.

Rope Look?

Been having some fun with simple thumb dents on the bottom of some baking dishes this weekend.  It sort of makes a rope like look around the base.  These bakers will be wood fired so the simple texture around the base won't distract from the magic the fire creates on the pieces.

In addition to the bakers, I've got about a dozen salt and peppers on drying boards and a bisque running.  It was a fun and productive weekend.

What's New

There's been lots of activity here, but not a lot that's new.  Winter in Minnesota (even though it's been an incredibly mild one) usually involves lots of catching up on activities that get put off while the weather is nice.  The past two weeks, we've gone to the movie theater twice and done dinner with friends numerous times.  We never get to do much of that during the summer with sales, firings and other outdoor activities taking priority.

Along with all our socializing, I've been spending more time in the studio.  Throw, throw, throw, trim, trim, trim, bisque and stack in a storage tub for upcoming firings this spring and summer.  For the past few years I've been trying to make most of my work for summer shows during the winter so I can feel less stressed during the summers.  So far, it's been pretty successful and I'm planning to stick with it.

Hope your winter is going well and you too are able to spend some time catching up before busy spring and summer months.

Be well.
