Some days are like that

Happy Halloween everybody.

It's been a bit since my last post. With a sale coming up next weekend, I've been busy getting the last few loads through the kiln to make sure I have an adequate inventory for the sale.

A couple hours ago, I unloaded the last kiln load to find some amazing pieces and this...

The colors are awesome, but a little more fluid than I'd anticipated. Looks like I'll be spending some time with a hammer and chisel before my next firing. Sure am glad I'd put on a fresh coat of kiln wash earlier in the week, at least the chunks should come off pretty easily without taking much of the shelf with it.

It's a glaze combo that is a little more reliable on horizontal surfaces giving this pie plate a glassy depth.

Here's a close-up of the Sky Blue glaze over the Metallic Green.

Now if I could master the right thickness on vertical pieces I'd really be pleased with the combination.

Have a great week.

EMT Mug Swap

Yesterday I received this great mug from Stacy Shepanek as part of the Etsy Mud Team mug swap. It's a nice size and fits my hand wonderfully. The cheery little bird watching me enjoy my hot chocolate last night was an extra pleasure.

Thanks Stacy!!

Photos from the Woodfire

An awesome group of potters

And below are a few photos of some of the pieces I had in the firing to test glazes for possible use in future firing.

Woodfire with Friends

Last Sunday, I joined an amazing group of potters doing a woodfire at friends Donovan and Colleen's studio. I put a couple pots in their firing to test some glazes I'd like to use in future wood firings. Last night the first chamber was being held at cone 10 while the the soda chamber was stoked to bring it up to temp.

When we were leaving last night I snapped this photo of the flames from the chimney and the moon.

The Oven in Operation

After several weekends of construction, the cob oven was finally dry and ready to be used. We built a fire inside and once the oven was hot, baked four personal sized pizzas and three loaves of bread.

The first pizza was done is about two minutes and tasted wonderful.

The first loaf of bread was a bit overdone on the outside and underdone on the inside. But the next two loaves were just right.

Now that the first baking is behind us, I'm really looking forward to our next pizza and bread bake next weekend.

New Sales Venue

Today I'm taking some pottery to a new sales venue in Superior Wisconsin called Lu. My past focus has been in SE Minnesota as that's where I spend most of my time, but it's time to start branching out beyond my beautiful little corner of the State. Please stop in and check out Lu when you're near Superior.

Have a great weekend.
